Vintage fun

Thrift store finds:

Western wear is still normal in our part of the world.
This 1956 pattern is so out of date that it is almost in style again.

Also, 1956.
Anxious to see if all pieces are here.  Want to make a pair just so that I can say I have. lol

Remember these?  Found this calendar page in an old cookbook.  The calendar forms a pocket that was used to hold receipts, recipes, bills, birthday cards, etc.

In August of 1965, my fellow 4-H friends and I would have been frantically finishing up our projects so that they could be exhibited at the Western Idaho State Fair.
We would have been riding our bikes to school almost everyday until the class assignment sheets were posted in the foyer windows.  None of us thought we wanted school to start, but we were always anxious to know who our classmates would be and which teacher we'd be "stuck" with.  (Poor teachers!)
And, hopefully, we'd get one or two last camping trips in before school started.

I hope you can read the recipes.  All look edible except one.  Even it might be good; it just sounds awful to me.  Please, tell me which one or ones you wouldn't care for.  Let's see if we agree. :)

I don't want chicken and gelatin anywhere near each other. ☺ The orange sherbert one looks yummy! When you get those gloves made, we want to see them!

Hi!

I can't believe that these patterns were only .50 and .45 cents back in the day! Please post a picture of the gloves when you are done with them! I can remember my mother wearing gloves everywhere when I was a child - I loved to hold her hand when she had them on... :0)

The calendar is so familiar to me! I can remember my mother or my grandmother having something like that hanging on the wall! The recipes do look pretty good, but I don't think the the Chicken Pineapple mold salad sounds very appealing - just something about all those things being in a mold . . . and congealing! I agree with Vee, chicken and gelatin should not be used in the same sentence.

What fun finds!

Hugs,
Barb

P.S. So glad you did not get snow! It has stopped snowing, but the rain is just pouring down now! Maybe there is hope for my tomatoes now that the snow has stopped?!

I do not like cottage cheese or mayo so I do not think the peach scouffle salad would be good. Be sure and let us see the gloves after you have made them. Have a blessed day. Madeline

I'll have to pass on those recipes. ;) I've never heard of making homemade gloves before, except for knitted mitten-types. Show them when you're done!

What a treasure trove!
When I was 12 our preacher wife invited me and my cousins to her home for a formal dinner. She made that chicken gelatin mold. I don't think any of us ate it.
Those gloves look tricky to make. Please show the end results when you're finished with a pair.

Great finds! Just love the colours that they chose....and August 1965 was when I was born! I am having this thing for Western Shirts at the mo - might take on a child's size first though - to my mind they always look tricky

Haha - I don't believe I could eat the chicken and gelatin recipe, but these type of recipes were the kind that my grandmothers would make. Some were good, but most were pretty hard to swallow. We sure weren't allowed to say anything.
